What's In a Name?

The other day I was thinking how funny it is when our family and friends come up with nicknames for us. Some are pretty obvious, while, some, aren't as much; however, those are the ones I love because they stemmed from an experience and/or inside joke between you and that person, or group of people.

For example, my 5 year old's nickname is ChiChi (pronounced just the way it's spelled), which translates to meat in one of the East Indian dialects. As a baby, Madison had a very round and chubby face, so we tweaked the meaning a little to mean just that, hence...ChiChi. Even though she has grown out of her chubbiness, that will forever be her nickname.





As for me, I have several names that I was given: (1)Shorty, (2) Shorty Babe and (3) the Queen of Naboo. Don't worry, you'll get the rundown on why these are my nicknames. =)

1. Shorty - this one is somewhat obvious. It's what my husband calls me, and it's not only because I'm 5'3" and my husband is 6'3". I only get called Sharon when I'm in trouble...HA!

2. Shorty Babe - My oldest daughter would hear my husband call me Shorty and me call my husband Babe. She put two and two together and determined that my real name was Shorty Babe. I like it...It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

3. The Queen of Naboo - This by far is my favorite nickname, and it was given to me by one of my closest friends, Erica. When we first met, she would tell her husband about our "fun" study sessions and when we hung out. It was hilarious because the first time I met him, the first thing he said to me was, "You really do exist." Moving on with the story, Erica's husband asked her where I from and she couldn't recall the name of the country. They busted out with a globe and proceeded to try to find my birth country. All Erica could recall was that the name of the country had the following letters: N, A and O. After a while of searching the globe with no luck, Erica blurted out, "I think she's from Naboo!" Her husband informed her that Naboo was a planet from the Star Wars franchise, and NOT an actual country. So there you have it, that is why I am the Queen of Naboo. Natalie Portman ain't got nothing on me! ;-)
